*What is the Golden Visa?*

The Golden Visa is essentially a long-term residence visa for the UAE. It is offered to investors, entrepreneurs, people with specialised talents and researchers in the fields of science, culture and art as well as students with promising scientific capabilities.

This new system was introduced in 2019 and allows foreigners to live, work and study in the UAE without a national sponsor and with 100% ownership of their business in the UAE. The visas can be issued for 5 or 10 years, and will renew automatically so long as all the requirements are met.

*Who is eligible for the Golden Visa?*

The criteria for eligibility differs based on the duration of the visa. Ten-year visas are open to investors and people with specialised talents, while 5-year visas are open to investors, entrepreneurs and outstanding students.

*How do you apply for the Golden Visa?*

By applying for the visa, you can do so through the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship eChannels portal. You can also apply through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs website. Application is possible through their mobile apps and through offline channels too.

is the first Odia artist to receive UAE’s coveted Golden Visa, which allows her to stay and work in Dubai for 10 years.

several Indians have become holders of the Golden Visa since its launch, including Mohanty and

two Ayurvedic doctors from Kerala, NRI entrepreneur Vedanta Baruah from Assam and musician Nikhil Mukhi—an Indian expat born in Dubai—among others.

In May this year, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt was granted the Golden Visa as well. Others include Cristiano Ronaldo, Novak Djokovic, and Paul Pogba.
