One of the most important things you can do to help yourself recover from any pain (Back, Knee or Shoulder) is to stay mobile. A day or two of bed rest is fine if it is hurting, but after that excessive rest makes your muscles weaker and make future injuries and pain more likely. Cold packs can help in reducing swelling and inflammation if used within first day or two of the injury. After that, hot pads help relieve muscle tension and spasms.
