Get ready to pay one fine while Driving!!! Wait it’s not for wrong parking, breaking signal, this is for using Bluetooth/ ear phone.
If you’re one of the numerous commuters who have been using the daily drive/ride time to catch up with friends or listen to your favourite podcast, you’re going to have to get rid of the habit very soon. As per recent reports, the amended Motor Vehicles Act, the use of mobile phones while driving has been included in the dangerous driving category and this includes the use of Bluetooth-enabled devices, headphones and earphones as well!
Already brought into effect across Bangalore, violation of the rule will require you to cough up a hefty fine of up to Rs. 5,000 or up to one year jail or both! The rule does not apply to using phones for navigation. However, using headphones for the same will be punishable, according to police officials. While the first violation of the rule will require you to pay up Rs. 500, the second time, you will be fined Rs. 1,000.
Joint commissioner of police (traffic) BR Ravikanthe Gowda said, “As per the Motor Vehicle Act, the use of gadgets that divert the attention during the operation of a vehicle is restricted. Whether it is mobile phones, headphones, BlueTooth earphones or any other equipment, it violates this provision, so we have given clear instructions to fine those indulging such use of technology while commuting.” This is applicable even when you’re at a traffic signal, he added. As per reports, the authorities have booked more than 86,000 individuals for the usage of phones while driving. While the new rule has been met with much criticism from commuters, it looks like we’re going to have to adapt to the new way of commuting now.
