Lucknowi Dal
Sultani Dal or Lucknowi Dal is a nawabi Lentil recipe which is of Mughal origin. The dal is cooked with milk 🥛 & cream which gives it a truly royal feel.
Ingredients
â–˘ 1 cup Tuvar dal boiled
▢ ½ tsp Turmeric Powder
▢ 300 ml Milk 🥛
â–˘ 2 tbsp Fresh Cream
â–˘ 3 tbsp Ghee
â–˘ 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
â–˘ 1 tsp Ginger (Chopped)
â–˘ 2 tsp Garlic đź§„(Chopped)
â–˘ 2 tsp Green Chilli (Chopped)
â–˘ 2-3 Dry Red Chillies
▢ ½ cup Onion 🧅(Chopped)
â–˘ 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
Method:
1. Add the boiled dal in a medium pan and add turmeric/Haldi & milk 🥛 , Cream and salt 🧂 & mix well.
2. Cook the dal on low heat till it thickens a bit.
3. Heat ghee in a pan.
Once the ghee is hot, add cumin seeds. Fry for 20 seconds.
4. Add ginger, garlic đź§„ and green chilies and fry for a few seconds.
5. Add onion đź§… and dry red chilies and fry till onions đź§… are slightly browned.
6. Switch off the heat and add red chilli 🌶 powder in the pan.
7. Pour this tadka over the dal.
Mix well.
Garnish with fresh coriander and green chilies.
Serve hot with rice or Phulkas.
