Before heading out, I always check the latest updates for your next destination. Check Road conditions, weather, general information, if visiting any cities check for the crime and break-in’s and how far the basic service will be?
3. Download offline maps, especially when you are in remote areas
The offline feature on the Google and Apple maps apps is very useful. Download maps of certain areas when you have service and heavily rely on them when you don't.

Wild camping or primitive camping means there are no amenities. Some people seek out very remote wild-camping options, but the safest camping at preestablished wild spots, which are still off of dirt roads but are usually easier to access and closer to towns.
6. If stuck in a bigger city overnight, be careful about where you park.
If you have to stay in a parking lot or along a street try to be as stealthy as possible.
Don't brush your teeth outside or give away hints that are sleeping in car. Also park in well-lit spots and block out your windows.

10. Stay on top of car maintenance to try to avoid breaking down, have a basic understanding of car mechanics and frequently check car over.
Make sure the oil and fluid levels are in the proper range and regularly monitor tire pressure.

When traveling into remote areas with limited services, always pack enough water and food for a few days. This is important in case car breaks down, or you decide to spend an extra day somewhere.

Also avoid posting on social media with location tags when you get to a new place. You don't want random people to know exactly where you are.
