The Museum of Earth will be a grand display of India's unique geological history and heritage
The Museum of Earth (TIME), the country's first museum dedicated to earth will soon be set up in Uttar Pradesh. The museum will be a whole new world of palaeosciences, geology, tectonics and earth processes, and is expected to attract science buffs by the dozen.
A geo treasure of the country, the museum will become a reality with the joint efforts of Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP), Ministry of Earth Sciences, Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Culture, said official sources.
The museum will showcase India's unique geological history and heritage and will promote cutting-edge research in palaeontology. It will also provide a national repository for precious rocks, meteorites, and fossil collections. BSIP will share its rarest of the rare, oldest and unique fossil collections with the TIME museum", informed the director, BSIP.
The museum will display the rich collection of legendary palaeobotanist late Prof. Birbal Sahni. It will also have on display million-year-old fossils of insects and the earliest fossil record of bananas from Madhya Pradesh. In addition, the museum will also include the earliest record of sweet potatoes from the country and others, read an official note.
